Abstract
This study analyses the evolution of the Italian discourse on the Libyan conflict from 2011 to 2021, focusing on the securitization phenomenon. Through discourse analysis of Prime Ministers, Foreign Affairs, Interior, and Defence Ministers' communications, securitization patterns in relation to the Copenhagen school’s theory of sectoral security were explored. The findings reveal that securitization was predominantly observed in the societal sector of security, particularly in the context of migration issues. Additionally, the study highlights shifts in Italy's policy approach and priorities during this period. Overall, this research enhances the understanding of securitizing discourses and their impact on Italian policy-making concerning Libya.
