As Europe’s biggest gathering of political scientists, the ECPR General Conference is the platform for lively discussion and exchange of ideas. The conference covers the full range of political science, from international relations, EU politics to comparative politics, public administration, and political theory.
The conference is set in the culturally rich city of Glasgow, renowed for its art scene, style and stunning architecture. The Conference launches on 4 September 2014 during which there is a Plenary Lecture held in the famous Bute Hall, and welcome reception at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
The Academic Programme consists of lectures, Roundtables and themed Sections and Panels on topical subjects. Each Panel will include 4–5 Papers to be presented and discussed. The Programme will be very broad with Sections covering all the main areas of political science, political theory, international relations and European studies.
New process for Sections and Panels
2014 will see an introduction of a new improved two-staged process. This is the call for Section proposals, which will be followed by a call for Panels and Papers in December.
First stage of the General Conference submission process (Sections)
Participants from full ECPR member institutions are invited to organise a Section. All proposals to organise Sections should be submitted through the online form by 15 November 2013. The Sections will be selected by the Academic Convenors in early December. Further information about the role of a Section Chair can be found in our handy Guidelines.
The Section proposal requires:
- A proposed Section Chair and Co-Chair to have a MyECPR account. A Co-Chair can come from a full member, an associate or non-member institution.
- The email address for the Co-Chair, which must be the same as registered in their MyECPR account.
- A Section title.
- An Abstract of no more than 1000 words, in English, which summarises the key aims and objectives of the Section and includes ideas for the Panel and Papers.
Prospective participants can contact Jenna Barnard for further information regarding the conference organisation.
Second stage of the General Conference submission process (Full Panels and individual papers)
In early December, the call for Panels and individual Papers will be opened. The second stage is open to all participants, but please note that all participants must have a MyECPR account.
During the second stage of the conference, individuals will be able to propose a Panel including 4–5 Papers or propose individual Papers to a particular Section. Further information explaining the stages in detail can be found in the Guidelines.
When proposing a Panel/Paper please note that:
- Panel proposals must include a minimum of four Papers and each Paper must include the Paper title, an abstract and author(s) details.
- A standlone Paper can be proposed to a specific Section if accepted, the Section chair will allocate it to the appropriate Panel.
Please note that there will not be a separate call for Papers.
